About
Erica Hodgson
Governance mentor and trainer. Professional supervisor and coach.
Helping experienced professionals lead with clarity.
I work with mid-to-advanced career professionals and boards across New Zealand who care about doing things well. I provide values-led support that brings structure, clarity and space to think.
When your path is clearer, your work life is smoother
You’re experienced. You’ve built a strong career, taken on leadership or harder to get traction.
You might be on a board where the lines between governance and operations are blurry, decisions feel stalled, or your contribution is unclear.Or you’re navigating a professional role that’s stretching you in new ways. You’re juggling strategic priorities, staff dynamics, and the pressure to show up with vision and confidence when time and space to reflect are in short supply.
What you want isn’t complex. You want clarity. You want to move forward with confidence.
You want to make good decisions, lead with integrity, and feel like your time and energy are making a meaningful impact. You want smart, values-aligned support that meets you where you are.
Without jargon, judgment or unnecessary complexity.
That’s where I come in.
I started Work Better Together because I wanted to support people who care about the work they do, but need space, structure and support to do it well.
Because when you’re carrying a lot—decisions, expectations, teams—you need more than advice. You need space to think, room to be honest, and the kind of support that helps you lead with your feet on the ground.
My path here hasn’t been traditional. I began as an Occupational Therapist, moved into clinical leadership and strategic roles, and eventually found my place in governance and organisational development. Along the way, I trained as a coach and supervisor because I saw how reflective practice changes not just performance, but peace of mind.
After the birth of my second child, I stepped away from the day job to bring all the strands together - professional supervision, governance consulting and facilitation.
I’ve sat on boards like Accuro Health Insurance, Lotto NZ and Youthline. I’ve supported directors and CEOs in high-stakes environments. And I’ve worked with people who, like me, bring a different lens to leadership - one that prioritises wellbeing, clarity and purpose.
I believe that clear thinking is powerful. That governance doesn’t have to be intimidating. That supervision can be strategic. And that your work life can feel lighter and more meaningful when you’ve got the right support.
My work sits at the intersection of governance, professional supervision, facilitation and coaching. I bring a unique lens built over a career that spans clinical practice, organisational development, and senior governance roles across health, social services, education, and values-led organisations.
What sets me apart is perspective. I’ve worked closely with people and systems at the individual, team, and board level. I know how much clarity and confidence can shift when the right support is in place. I’ve seen what happens when leaders finally have the space to think, reflect and refocus.
I wanted to offer that kind of space. Where governance becomes clearer, leadership becomes smoother, and people feel equipped to move forward with purpose.
My approach is grounded, strategic, and respectful of the experience you already bring. Whether we’re working on board development, untangling tricky dynamics, or exploring your next professional step, I’m here to support progress that actually feels like progress.
This isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about helping you lead well, and contribute meaningfully to the work you care about.
